Ask The Plumber

When I Turn The Water Faucet On, I Hear A Clinking Noise. What Could This Be?

Sometimes plumbing can make you think that your home is haunted.

Toilets may mysteriously flush, drains may bubble and gurgle, and faucets may clink. Don’t worry, you’re not living with Casper.

The reason that your water faucet clinks when you turn it on is most likely due to a loose washer.

You can take apart the faucet and remove the loose washer. Make sure to reassemble the faucet correctly and tightly to prevent this from occurring again. If you take apart the faucet and don’t get the screw out, turn the water on and that will help flush the faucet.

If you don’t feel comfortable taking apart the faucet yourself, you should
call a local plumber. Also, if you disassemble the faucet but don’t retrieve the washer or screw, then having a professional assist you will be the best course of action.
