Pressure Relief Valves

Pressure relief valves are located at the end of pipes.
There is a spring, which under normal pressure conditions, keeps the valve closed. When the pressure inside the pipe builds up, the spring releases the valve closure, allows water to release, and protects the pipes from damage that would occur if it were left under pressure.
If something would go wrong with the pressure relief valve, you need a professional plumber to replace or repair any problems.
You do not want to try to repair these valves yourself. The valves have many smaller pieces inside of the relief valve that could easily get lost when you take it apart.
- Pressure relief valves are designed to release pressure that has built up. Additionally, the valves protect pipes from bursting from the high levels of pressure that accumulates inside. There are necessary steps to follow when disassembling and reassembling the relief valves that are vital to the operation of the system.
- If you are not a qualified plumber, you could do something the wrong way. This could result in a faulty relief valve that could cause severe damage to pipes. Other things that need to be looked at with the relief valves are the wear and tear on the valve closure.
If the pressure relief valves are not properly inspected for wear, you could end up with serious problemsl
- The valve closure springs can wear over time and may need to be replaced. This is usually done every one thousand hours while in operation. If you do not have proper inspections by a qualified plumber, you could lose pressure. This may occur if the valve does not close properly. This could also be the result of pressure that has built up beyond that pipes capabilities.
- If you have a pressure relief valve, you need to plan for inspections on a regular basis to prevent problems.
