The Shower Head Is Leaking When Off

When a shower head is leaking, even with the faucets off, it’s an annoying and possibly expensive situation.

In most cases, the washer needs to be replaced. However, there are usually two other causes of a leaky shower head.

The pipe connecting to the head may be the cause of the leak, or the holes in the shower head are clogged.

To discover the problem, unscrew the shower head and removing it from the shower. Make sure to protect the part of the shower head that connects to the pipe.

Remove the face of the shower head and change the washer. Once this has been done, reassemble and screw back the shower head.

If the shower head is clogged, remove the faceplate and soak the shower head in a solution of vinegar for 12 hours. The vinegar will dissolve the mineral deposits that are causing the clog.

After the shower head has been soaked, any remaining deposits can be removed by brushing out the shower head plate.

After taking these steps, if the shower head still leaks, it’s time to call a professional plumber.
